Currumbin surf school History
Currumbin Alley Surf School began in 1993, when founder Tracey Chilcott decided to combine her love of the ocean with her passion for helping others. Although far from a professional surfer, it was Tracey’s passion for the ocean and bubbly nature that saw her become a hit with local kids and adults alike and as much a part of the Alley as the rock itself.
Currumbin Alley Surf School was the original surf school at Currumbin and although always keeping a relatively low – profile, Tracey has seen thousands of people come through over the years from Japanese tour groups to the Brisbane Broncos Football team, from 5 year old ‘grommets’ to 65 year old Grandma’s.
In 2009, Tracey handed over the reigns to son Sam, then 24 years old, who had just returned from a 3 year stint overseas where he taught at surf schools in California, England, Ireland and Morrocco. Sam had completed his degree in Excercise Science 3 years previously and had planned to come home and complete his Masters of Physiotherapy but after much thought decided that sharing the thing he loved most with others was where his passion lay.
Despite having surfed all over the world, Sam still rates the Alley as his favourite wave, always feeling a special affiliation with the wave that has brought him so many memories over the years.
